On the premises of the FUG, in order to enlarge the existing heat and electricity production, a second biomass heating plant with a heat input capacity of 25 MW and a maximum electrical output of 5 MW will be installed. The plant must comply with the requirements of the EEG (Renewable Energies Act) . The project is called "BioHKW II - 5 MWel" (short: "BioHKW II).
The produced steam from the biomass boiler (co-generation) drives a steam turbine for electricity generation. Main steam supply (low-pressure steam of 4.5 bar(a)) for the district heating and the internal consumers is realized via a steam extraction at the steam turbine. By means of an unregulated steam bleed, medium-pressure steam of 16 bar(a) can be extracted to supply internal consumers and to supply district heating. The flue gases from the boiler will be cleaned in a flue gas cleaning plant and removed through a chimney into the atmosphere.
